|Object Name||Letter, Illustrated|
|Artist||Russell, Charles M. (1864-1926)|
|Dimensions||H-6.75 W-10.75 inches|
In this self-effacing communiqué sent from New York, Russell depicts himself as a gap-toothed bumpkin uncharacteristically sporting a derby, gloves, spats, and walking cane. He also pokes fun at his aversion to modern gadgets like the telephone and the unlikelihood that he would make a long-distance call to Montana simply to gossip. When Russell penned this letter in 1907, Central Avenue turned to mud whenever Great Falls received a heavy rain.
The message reads: "Hellow sentral I want Grate Falls your bussy. / what duoing paving sentral av or building the Millwackee deepo / Hellow is that you Bill. this is Russ hows every thing / whats that you say / Combs and Rock are what / the H____ again well Il be D__ / I here thers been a hold up near Malty was you in on it. that right blame it on Kid Curry / well Il have to quit Iv got a date with Rockyfellow / give my regards to the bunch."
