Object Name Painting
Artist DeCamp, Ralph E. (1858-1936)
Dimensions H-48 W-40.5 inches
Medium Oil on canvas
Date 1905
Notes The subject of the painting is the artist's son Renan, Sr. The dog is named Reo. On 2-20-1955 in a letter to Roy Johnson, Louise DeCamp wrote: "My husband [Renan] was about 8 and had a new air gun. He killed a robin and was inconsolable. The picture... shows the boy (in blue sailor suit and broad brimmed hat falling back on his shoulders) kneeling by the dead bird with the big bird dog Reo, looking up and laughing, wondering what is the matter. That is the picture Mr. De. felt was too personal ever to sell. A humerous note concerning how my husband felt about that picture - he alsways said his mother made his trousers too well fitted and that picture made him remember those tight pants"
