Notes This humorous self-portrait was sent to his friend Bill Rance, owner of the upscale Silver Dollar Saloon in Great Falls, while Russell was on one of his visits to New York. Russell was not particularly fond of formal dress.

The illustration depicts Russell standing, wearing formal attire - white tie and tails with a top hat. A black coat is draped over his right arm. He has a white glove on his left hand and is holding his other glove and a cane in that hand. He is holding a cigar in his right hand. He has a red sash tied around his waist. Across the bottom of the page, the image is captioned "Would you know me Bill" in black ink.
