Artist Russell, Charles M. (1864-1926)

Notes Early in his career Russell often would make use of nontraditional materials, ranging from birch bark to cement, when the notion struck him. The most unusual "canvas" in the Society's collection is this metal medallion that was originally part of a bank vault door. Russell spent the winter of 1880-1881 in Lewistown, where he was commissioned to produce two oil paintings for the Bank of Fergus County.
