Notes This is a formal head-and-shoulders portrait in three-quarters profile of an unidentified Indian man. He appears to be Sioux. Russell shows him wearing hoop earrings, raccoon tails with braids, and a feather at the back of his head. He also wears a buckskin shirt with blue and yellow quillwork on the shoulder seams and a rectangular blue and yellow quilled inset below the neck.
