Notes In 1888 Dr. William A. and Atta Netta Long-residents of Philbrook-and another couple hired mountain man Jake Hoover to guide them on a hunting trip. Hoover's help on the outing included a fiddler, a cook, and Russell, who drew this sketch for the Longs to document their adventures. According to family lore, Mrs. Long was very style-conscious and asked Russell to make sure that he depicted her "French heels," which were then the height of fashion.
