Notes Although somewhat timeworn, Russell's fingerprints can still be seen in the painted wax of this carefully modeled figure, especially around the area of the rider's right forearm. Russell incorporated materials such as twine for the ropes, pieces of leather for the bridle reins and the whip of the quirt, a small piece of metal fashioned into the head of the spear, and small heads of pins for tacks on the quirt handle.
