Object Name Drawing
Artist Russell, Charles M. (1864-1926)
Dimensions H-11.5 W-9.5 inches
Medium Pen and Ink
Date 1921
Notes Russell's skill as a storyteller-in both word and picture-reached its apogee with the publication of his illustrated "Rawhide Rawlins" stories, which began appearing in Montana newspapers in 1916. These publications would provide lasting insight into Russell's very western sense of humor. This drawing of a cowboy being thrown off by a bucking horse while a second, mounted cowboy watches the action is from that illustrated series.
