Dimensions H-25.75 W-20.25 inches
Medium Watercolor/Ink
Date 1943
Notes This small untitled piece was created in 1943 and is from a more surrealist abstract period in Pollock's life. It was in the late 40's and 50's he developed new drip techniques that characterize his most popular works. The piece is a watercolor, with pen and areas of thick gouache paint. The main colors are light pink, yellow, black and brown. Light pink and yellow swirling in the background, bold dark figures make up the foreground. There appear to be frontal and profile views of dramatic faces in the upper right corner. Thin black pen lines in swirling curvaceous forms are present throughout. In places the pen ink was wet and ran like watercolor. Red, blue and yellow are thick and boldly painted, enhancing darker forms.
