U.S. army Springfield carbine "Trap door type." Half stock attached to barrel by a single barrel band with an open stacking swivel bar with two screws - left side below back for sling. Plane concave butt plate. Leaf type adjustable rear sight to 1200 yards on leaf (#8-11 on sight). Blade type front sight severely worn. Three click tumble. Two piece trigger guard with trigger plate and trigger bow. High arch breech - identifies early 1873s. Serial number 43142. U. S. over Springfield and "Trap door" type breech identifies metal components as U.S. Army carbine made at Springfield. Armory high arch breech identifies gun made in early 1873. 45/70 caliber rifle usually loaded with 55 grams of powder. The stock does not appear to be walnut.
