Object Name Card, Illustrated
Artist Russell, Charles M. (1864-1926)
Dimensions H-12.5 W-9 inches
Medium Watercolor/Ink/Gouache/Paper
Date 1914
Notes By the 1910s, Russell was producing his own Christmas cards in multiple. One lucky friend received the original greeting executed by the artist; others-almost as lucky-received high-quality color reproductions. In 1914, Russell sent this original, hand-painted greeting to kindred spirit Malcolm Mackay and his family.

In the lower right corner the image is captioned: "Best wishes for your Christmas / Is all you get from me, / 'Cause I ain't no Santa Claus / Don't own no Christmans tree, / But if wishes was health and money, / I'd fill your buskskin poke, / Your doctor would go hungry / An' you never would be broke."
