This sketch was one of seven pen-and-ink sketches Russell drew to accompany a collection of stories he was in the process of compiling at the time of his death. Nancy finished the project and the resulting publication, 'Trails Plowed Under: Stories of the Old West', was published by Doubleday, Page & Co. in 1927.
Depicts an Indian who has just shot a horse. The horse is on his back, his neck curved.
