Notes One of two original sketches executed in the book "Pen Sketches." This sketch is located on inside of the back cover. In the center of this sketch is a man standing, holding a pipe in his left arm, with his right arm outstretched. Facing the man is an Indian on horseback who is holding a spear in his right hand and has his left arm raised. Behind the man is a large group of people. There are four tipis in the right background. In the center background a large sun is coming over the horizon. Some pencil lines are still visible and have not been replaced in ink.
