Notes The original painted wax model of 'Peace' is undated, but it is thought to have been executed around 1898, a year after the Russells moved to Great Falls. It was likely a gift for one of his friends. The Indian man steps forward with his right arm raised high in a gesture of greeting; in the other arm, he cradles a pipe. He wears wire bracelets on both wrists, and his hair is flowing back from an apparent breeze. His hair on the right side is held with a decorative rosette. He wears a breechclout with a knee-length apron in front. A pipe bag with two feathers is suspended from his left arm.
