Wolle visited Virginia City in the summer of 1950 (see "Pay Dirt Pictured" p. 20) while working on her book, "The Bonanza Trail" (U of Indian Press, 1953). This image does not appear in "The Bonanza Trail," but it was used in "Montana Pay Dirt: A Guide to the Mining Camps of the Treasure State," (Denver: Sage Books, 1963).
A delapidated frame house with ornate trim dominates the left half of the image, while an outhouse, tree, and corner of a porch are depicted on the right. A sidewalk runs in front of stone retaining walls, and steps lead from the houses down to the sidewalk. Predominant colors of black-gray and green.
