Notes Whitman Style leather saddle. The pommel is high and the gullet is wide spread. There are two brass rosettes on each front side with short leather strands hanging from the center, below both of the rosettes are two tall upside down U stable with a ring through each. The center is hollow like a McClellan. There are front and back billets on both left and right sides, they form a large "V" shape. The billets are attached to a large ring and behind the ring is a circular leather cover. The ring also has the girth straps attached. On the leather cover behind the ring is a faint stamp, seen better on the proper left side than on the right. It is difficult to see but appears to read "WHITMAN". Approximately 14.5 cm or 5¾" behind the front curve is the stirrup bar. This bar has a latch on one side to allow easy changing of stirrup straps. On the back of the cantle on the proper right side is a footman loop with a circular ring attached. There are two more footman's loops on the panel, under the cantle, one on the left and one on the right. Both of these loops have long leather straps hanging from the loop and both are braided. On the very back of the cantle is an extension that curves downward. Directly under the downward curve is a metal mushroom like stem or a saddle spud. The stirrups are metal and at the base of the stirrup or foot rest has a rubber pad. The stirrup straps have been altered. A section near the buckle is new, a different color than the rest of the strap.
