A scene of a placid lake at dawn or dusk with buck deer or elk in center on rocky bank looking at the viewer. Foreground is rocks. Tall conifers, scrags, brush and a fallen tree come to water's edge and a snow capped mountain shows through the hazy background. Signed lower right corner "Wm Standing."
When the painting was reframed it was found that it had been painted on linoleum and at the top of the back of the painting, handwritten in black ink was "The Silent Evening".
