Notes This quilt was made during WWI as a fund-raiser for the Cascade County Red Cross by the local chapter of the Ladies Auxiliary to Council 349, Order of the United Commercial Travelers. Mrs. W. V. Roth originated the idea. People paid to have their names placed on the quilt, with spaces ranging from 25 cents to $100.00 for the large cross in the center (there are almost 1300 names on the quilt). Mrs. R. B. Wilson wrote out all of the names, and then another member embroidered them. In April 1918 the finished quilt was raffled off and a total of $1060.80 was donated to the Red Cross.
