Notes 'Indian Hunters' Return' captures the excitement, and relief, that greets a small party of Blood hunters as they return to camp at dusk, bringing the buffalo meat and hides that mean survival for their families. Their painted tipis have been situated in a river bottom, nestled among leafless cottonwoods, to help provide protection from harsh winter winds. The orange glow of day's end, along with the presence of European trade goods-colorful blankets and a metal pot lying in the snow beneath a cooking tripod-foreshadow the coming demise of their traditional way of life.
