Title LONG HORNS CAME TO MORN [SIC] THEIR HUMPBACKED COUSIN, THE
Object Name Drawing
Artist Russell, Charles M. (1864-1926)
Dimensions H-10.5 W-16.625 inches
Medium Pen and Ink/Paper
Date 1918
Notes Sketch depicts two Longhorn steers in foreground standing over skeletal remains of partially decomposed bison; other Longhorn steers graze in background. Thematically, this drawing of a group of cattle milling forlornly around a weathered bison skeleton is infused with the same nostalgia inherent in so many of Russell's later works. While the artist attributes a sense of loss to the longhorns, in reality the mourning was his own.
