Notes Burton K. Wheeler (1882-1975) was a six-term U.S. senator (1923-1947) who twice ran as a U.S. vice-presidential candidate. Head-and-shoulders bronze bust. The subject wears eyeglasses, a suit coat, vest, and tie, and is facing slightly to his proper left. The bronze is finished with a traditional dark brown patina and is inscribed " 'B. K.' Wheeler" across the lower pedestal portion. It is mounted on a rectangular base of mottled gray and black granite which bears a brass plaque that reads: " 1882 Burton K. Wheeler 1975 / U. S. Senate 1923-1947 / Champion of Montana and its people, / civil liberties, an independent / supreme court and a non-interventionist / foreign policy."
